Starbuck Island Oil Remediation
A major project for Peter Luizzi & Bros that started in 2018 with the remediation of a contaminated parcel of property purchased by South Island Apartments, LLC and managed under Luizzi Companies. The project was accepted into the Brownfield Program after completing a $2M remediation. The remediation consisted of excavating approximately a 30 foot deep football size hole, where the team started to extract over 40,000 gallons of oil from the ground water table. During the process there was also around 4,500 tons of petroleum based contaminated material taken off site. This project is a part of a multi-unit luxury residential development in the heart of Green Island, NY and was a large part in the revitalization of this downtown riverfront area.
